Five White Flour Substitutes – Gluten Free

FIVE WHITE FLOUR SUBSTITUTES – GLUTEN FREE*

 
 
  1. ALMOND FLOUR 

  2.  OATS FLOUR

  3. CHICKPEA FLOUR

  4. FINGER MILLET 

  5. QUINOA FLOUR 

* All Gluten Free Flours need more binding agent than All Purpose White Flour
  • Almond Flour: Made by processing Skinless Almonds. Don’t want to buy?… Just blend skinless Almonds in the processor. If you keep the skins, it becomes ‘Almond Meal’.  Substitute 1 cup White Flour ~ 1 cup Almond Flour

  • Oats Flour: Made from processing rolled Oats. Make yours at home… Just blend rolled oats in the processor till finely grounded. Substitute 1 cup White Flour ~ 1 1/3 cup Oat Flour ( if store bought)… 2 1/3 cup Oat Flour (If homemade)

  • Chickpea Flour:  You will probably want to buy this because it is readily available and not that expensive. But… If you are feeling adventurous, just process raw and dried chickpeas. Voila. You can also try Gram Flour aka Besan which is processed from split chickpeas. Substitute 1 cup White Flour ~ 3/4 cup Chickpea Flour

  • Finger Millet Flour: Aka Ragi. I am not even going to tell you to make this at home… Unless you want to go to the fields. Substitute 1 cup White Flour ~ Litter less than 1/3 cup Finger Millet Flour

  • Quinoa Flour: If Quinoa Flour is not readily available to you then simply grind raw quinoa seeds in the processor and you are done. Substitute 1 cup White Flour ~ 1/3 cup Quinoa Flour
