Comfort Food Anyone? This is one of my favorite food ever. Lentil Soup or Dal…anything you like to call it. Pour it over some hot rice, devour it with some bread, team it up with veggies and protein.. you have yourself a delicious, DELICIOUS, meal. I would love to hear your thoughts. Tangy Spinach Dal

Dal or Lentils is my one of my favorite comfort foods. Teamed up with some white rice and some yogurt...You have yourself the best bowl in the world. Seriously, do try it. This recipe has got a balance of tangyness to it due to one simple ingredient. Let's dive in !

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Cup Toor Dal (Split Pigeon Peas) Alternatively, any Yellow Lentils
  • 2 Cups Spinach Chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 medium Red Onion Chopped
  • 1 large Tomato Sliced
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Cumin Powder
  • 1/4 cup Tamarind Raw Alternatively use Tamarind Sauce
  • Salt According to taste
  • 3 cups Water

Instructions

  • Rinse and Soak the dal (lentils for 30 minutes)
  • Soak raw tamarind pieces in hot water. Strain after 15 mins. Alternatively use tamarind sauce
  • Heat Ghee in the pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and let it splutter for a minute
  • Add the chopped onions and let it cook till golden brown
  • Mix in the ginger garlic paste and cook till the raw aroma disappears
  • Next add tomatoes and all the spices
  • Add the soaked dal along with 3 cups of water. Cook for three- four whistles
  • Gently remove the pressure valve but don't switch off the stove
  • Gently stir in the chopped spinach. Cooked for 2-3 mins
  • Add the tamarind sauce. Cook for few mins more. Turn off the heat
  • Sprinkle pomegranate powder (Optional) and serve with rice and veggies
